Organize By The Month Newsletter Change

I want to let you know that I am changing the “Organize By The Month Newsletter”. Instead of sending it on the first and fifteenth of each month I will be sending it only once a month starting with the July issue.

The newsletter will be sent to your inbox towards the last week of each month. This way you can plan ahead for any holidays that come at the beginning of the month. I will make sure a copy of it is posted on the blog so you can look up the different information as the month goes on.

If you have any suggestions or ideas that can help other readers on how to plan and celebrate the different holidays and events that take place, please let me know. I try to research web sites that can give you ideas but everyone loves to learn about how others celebrate. Don’t be shy. Please share your ideas.

If you haven’t signed up to receive the “Organize by the Month Newsletter” then please do so on the right sidebar. You will also receive my weekly “Decluttering Tips Newsletter”. This newsletter gives tips on how to control the clutter that enters our lives. I talk about paper clutter, gift clutter and decluttering different areas of the home plus many other things.

This week I am talking about all those summer outdoor accessories that the advertisements tell us we must have to turn our backyards into tropical paradises. They can add to our pleasure but they can also add to our clutter. Find out how to decide what to buy and what not to buy.

Be sure to sign up now so you can receive this tip and all future ones. If you have a suggestion for a tip or a question about how to declutter something please email me at Janice@cutclutterwithscissors.com.

Thanks,

Father’s Day is this coming Sunday

Father’s Day is this coming Sunday and what to give is the big question. If you don’t know what to give on Mother’s Day you can always give flowers. They last about a week and leave very little clutter to deal with.

Father’s Day gifts are a whole different matter. The standard tie or shirt do not necessarily fit the average lifestyle of today’s man. You can always give cologne if you know his favorite kind. A tool or something related to his hobby could work if, and that is a big if, you know he will use it or needs it. Too many times gifts are given with good intentions but then the item lays in a drawer or on a shelf unused.

If you are trying prevent more clutter in your home or your parents’ home then you need to be mindful of what kind of gifts you buy or make. Try to match the gift to his personality and/or hobbies. You can always ask him for ideas. If it is something he wants then there is a good chance it won’t become clutter, at least not right away.

If you have younger children their father would probably appreciate a homemade gift. Here are a few sights to give you ideas for homemade gifts and celebrations. Since you only have six days left to prepare you may want to check these out today.

Decluttering Children’s School Papers

Although June is not a month we typically think of as a time to declutter paper but if you have school age children you may think otherwise. As children clean out their desks and lockers a barrage of papers, notebooks, and other school supplies invade our homes. So what do we do with all these papers?

This week’s Decluttering Tips Newsletter addresses this issue. If you haven’t signed up to receive this ‘free’ weekly newsletter, please do so now.

I have now posted several articles on my website. One is on Garage Sales. If you are thinking about having a garage sale then you will want to read this article. There are a lot of thought provoking questions to help you decide if it is worth it or not.

If you decide it is worth having a sale my new eBook on the subject will be published in about two weeks. The book is designed to help you use a garage sale as a tool to declutter your home. It stresses the importance of getting the clutter out and the bonus is the extra money you can make.

Many people consider a garage sale a success or failure depending on how much money they make. I feel that a success or failure depends on if you have cleared the clutter out of your home.

I have also posted an article to help you determine whether an item is junk or treasure. These twelve questions will help you to be more objective when deciding if something is worth keeping or not.

If you know anyone who can benefit from the information in my blog, newsletters, or website, then please to pass this information along.

Sunny California

I’m back from my trip to Los Angeles. The trip went well and the planning ahead helped a lot. We had MapQuest all our events and only made a couple of wrong turns that we quickly corrected. I had a folder with all the information and took that in the car each time.

I didn’t have the right program on my laptop to be able to post some of the pictures. I will get that corrected before my next trip. Below are some of the pictures I took of the Santa Monica Beach. The first couple of days were cool but then it was beautiful weather after that. I can see why so many people want to live there.

Fortunately my sister lives there and warned us it could be cool at night time. We brought appropriate clothing. We tend to assume the weather will be perfect for our vacations especially in tropical areas. Whenever you travel to be sure to check out the weather first so you have the right kind of clothing.

On Vacation

I’m sitting here in the hotel room looking out at the palm trees in Santa Monica, CA. For those who live on the West coast, the Gulf coast, or other tropical areas you may not realize how pretty of a sight the ocean and palm trees are to a land locked Midwesterner.

I wish I could post a picture but I didn’t get my laptop set up the right way. This is the first time I have traveled with it. I can see that I still have a lot to learn on the technical side. Organization, whether at home, work, or travel is an ongoing learning process. I will be home on Friday and will post some pictures using my desktop computer. I will have to get the laptop up to speed for work before my next trip.

Traveling is always a challenge whether for work or vacation. With the summer vacation season upon us I will keep you informed of the best ways to plan for a trip using my own experiences and what I have researched.

If you have any suggestions that could help others with their planning then please post a comment. I would love to learn new and better ways to travel with less stress and I’m sure all my readers would too.
