St. Patrick’s Day Crafts

Today I was doing some research for my next tip newsletter. Because it is National Craft Month I was researching ways to use some of those craft supplies that are laying around.

Since St. Patrick’s Day is next Tuesday I didn’t want to wait until then to send you the links to do crafts with your children or for yourself. Find some projects where you can use some of the supplies you already have on hand. That will help declutter them.

Decluttering things doesn’t always mean you have to get rid of something. Sometimes it’s a matter of using those things in a productive and fun way. That takes them off the clutter list.

Have fun making some of the St. Patrick’s day crafts.

A Lucky Rainbow?

I’m sitting here in a hotel room in Portland, Oregon. As I was searching the internet for information on St. Patrick’s Day for the March newsletter I looked out the window and was amazed at what I saw. It is a partly cloudy day and directly in my view was a rainbow in the horizon. I grabbed my pocket camera and took some pictures. What are the odds of reading about St. Pat’s day and seeing a rainbow. I wonder if a pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow waiting for me.

I would post a picture except this is an old laptop and doesn’t have a card reader. I did buy a portable card reader and planned on bringing it. Somehow I forgot. It is probably sitting on my desk at home. Oh well, I think I remembered everything else for this trip. I’ll post a picture of the rainbow when I get home.

Anyway, I plan on having the March newsletter out by this weekend so you can start planning for the different events going on. I would love to have some feedback on the monthly newsletters. Do you find them helpful? Do you have any suggestions on how to improve them? Please leave a comment and let me know. Thanks.

You can see February’s newsletter by clicking on it in the sidebar to the right. If you aren’t signed up to receive this newsletter plus the weekly decluttering tip newsletter then please do so on the right sidebar.

Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday

Tomorrow is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. It is officially celebrated on this coming Monday which is President’s Day. Don’t forget that on Monday the banks, government offices, post office, and most schools will be closed.

My monthly newsletter for February has listed several websites to learn more about Abraham Lincoln. I have posted a link to the newsletter on the sidebar of this blog for your convenience.

There are also websites listed for Valentine’s Day activities you can do with your children. If they are having their school parties in the next couple of days then check out those sites for Valentine card designs and crafts.

To get a copy of the newsletter for March sent to you, please sign up on the sidebar. It will be sent to your email box by the beginning of March.

I would love to hear from you about the monthly newsletter. Does it help you plan out the month with dates listed? Are the links helpful? Is there something else you would like to see in this newsletter to help plan and organize the current month?

If you have suggestions of comments please let me know. Post them in the comment section. I appreciate any ideas that will help me improve the newsletters. Thank you.

Gratitude

This is a tough holiday season for many people. The economy has impacted most of us in one way or another. Even if you can’t buy as much or do as much as you would like, remember it is the little things that count.

Look for all the good things you can be grateful for such as your family, health, a roof over your head, friends, and many other things. We tend to focus on what we don’t have instead of what we do have.

“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” ~Epictetus

“If you count all your assets, you always show a profit.” ~Robert Quillen

Holiday Baking/Cooking Supplies

The holidays are upon us. Ovens are heating up and luscious smells are coming from them. Do you have all your baking supplies ready to go? Have you checked your recipes for ingredients needed? If not, now is the time to make that grocery list.

Make sure your ingredients are fresh. Most have “best used by” dates on the packages. If you put some of your ingredients into canisters, do you remember when you bought that last bag of flour? Flour gets rancid over time. Baking soda and baking powder get old and will not leaven your baked goods as well. Spices and herbs lose their punch.

If there isn’t a date on the package to go by you might be better off buying new. After all, you put your time and love into baking those cookies and cakes so you want the freshest ingredients to make them taste their best.

If you get all those supplies in the house now you will be able to bake up a storm when the weather outside is frightful.

When you start making that holiday meal (all or part of it) you’ll want everything ready to go. Plan ahead now so you won’t be heading to the grocery store for last minute items with all those unorganized people.
